hingoli has a rich history shaped by legends, royal rule, and social transformation. It is believed that the name “Chingoli” originated from the term “Simha-Oli.” The remains of mangrove forests and the Karimara temple strengthen this belief. During the reign of the Karthikappally kings, the region was an important center. Dutch records referred to Karthikappally as “Martha,” a small kingdom formed by the union of Karunagappally and Karimpaly. Historical records also mention the harsh laws of the Vettimana king and his Negro army. The massive mud fort walls and Kazhuvettumkunnu still remind people of the old social order.
